The Houston Texans and wide receiver Nico Collins have agreed to a three-year, $72.75 million extension, with $52 million guaranteed, according to agents Drew Rosenhaus, Ryan Matha, and Jason Rosenhaus, who spoke to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday. The contract has a potential maximum value of $75 million.
Collins, 25, had a standout season with 80 receptions (23rd in the NFL), 1,297 yards (8th), and eight touchdowns (tied for 8th) in 15 games. Drafted in the third round in 2021, Collins was set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season. Over three seasons, the former Michigan star has accumulated 150 catches for 2,224 yards and 11 touchdowns.
This extension follows Houston’s trade in early April, where they acquired wide receiver Stefon Diggs and two draft picks from the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick. Diggs, set to be a free agent after this season, received a $3.5 million raise, increasing his 2024 base salary to $22.52 million.
Extending Collins ensures the Texans have two dynamic playmakers under contract beyond the 2024 season: Collins and 2023 third-round pick Tank Dell. Dell, who had 709 yards as a rookie and was on pace for 1,205 yards before a leg injury, is now healthy and participated in Texans OTAs despite being shot at a private event in Sanford, Florida, in late April.
“We want to put defenses in binds, and with those three guys, it allows us to do that because they are so different and versatile,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said. “They are all explosive finishers with the football, which makes them great players. They can win on third down and finish in the end zone, which is what we look for at all skill positions on offense.”
