It might be a coincidence, but the Texas Longhorns seem to have a penchant for attracting talent from Vanderbilt to Austin.
The team officially announced the signing of 2024 center Jaime Vinson on Monday after he committed to Texas. The Austin native and former Vanderbilt signee decommitted from the Commodores in April, reopening his recruitment. He took official visits to South Carolina, Rutgers, and Kentucky last month but ultimately chose to stay home. After playing his first two years of high school at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy in Austin, Vinson moved to the prestigious Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., which has produced numerous star players, including Carmelo Anthony and former Longhorn Kevin Durant.
Earlier this offseason, Texas secured Vanderbilt transfer Malik Presley while bidding farewell to 2023-24 All-Big 12 First Team selection Dylan Disu, a fan favorite over the past three years who began his collegiate career at Vanderbilt.
In addition to Presley, the Longhorns have bolstered their roster with transfer commitments from Oregon State’s Jordan Pope, Arkansas’ Tramon Mark, and Indiana State’s Julian Larry and Jayson Kent. Despite these additions, Texas had yet to fill a gap in their frontcourt until signing Vinson. Though entering his freshman season, he has the potential to make an immediate impact.
The Longhorns kick off the regular season against the Ohio State Buckeyes in Las Vegas for the Hall of Fame Series on Monday, Nov. 4.
