Kansas football has welcomed another local transfer to its incoming class. On Saturday, Bryce Cohoon, a transfer from Syracuse, announced his commitment to the Jayhawks. Cohoon, who has already visited KU, will join as a redshirt freshman with four seasons of playing eligibility remaining.
The Wichita native had an outstanding high school career at Maize High School, where he was a three-year starter and contributed to two state championships. As a senior, he caught 37 passes for 844 yards and scored eight touchdowns. Additionally, he excelled in track, winning the 5A state championship in the 100 meters.
In terms of recruitment, Cohoon received FBS offers from Air Force and Army before accepting a full scholarship from Syracuse. He chose the Orange over seven other offers, including FCS programs like Northern Iowa and Southeast Missouri State. The 6-foot-2 wide receiver was rated as a three-star recruit, ranked No. 17 in Kansas and No. 267 among wide receivers nationally in the 2023 recruiting class by 247Sports.
During his freshman season at Syracuse in 2023, Cohoon appeared in three games but did not record any statistics.
At KU, Cohoon will join a wide receiver group that has a lot of veteran talent but fewer underclassmen. With the departure of scholarship player Surahz Buncom, KU’s roster will have only two underclassmen wide receivers this season: Jarred Sample and Keaton Kubecka.
