The Minnesota Vikings are expanding their defensive line and receiving corps, as announced by the team on Thursday. They have reached agreements with free agent defensive lineman Jerry Tillery and receiver Trent Sherfield Sr.
Tillery, who previously played for the Raiders, had a notable season last year, appearing in all 17 games and starting six. During this time, he accumulated 31 tackles, 2.0 sacks, two tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery. Las Vegas released Tillery at the onset of the new league year.
Hailing from Shreveport, Louisiana, Tillery attended Evangel Christian Academy, showcasing his talent with 93 tackles and 7.0 sacks during his senior year. He continued his football journey at Notre Dame, transitioning from offensive tackle to defensive tackle. Over his collegiate career, Tillery demonstrated his prowess with 84 tackles, 11.5 sacks, and 17.5 tackles for loss in 25 games, graduating with a degree in economics from Notre Dame’s College of Arts and Letters.
Sherfield, on the other hand, contributed to the Buffalo Bills in 2023, recording 11 receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown in his sole season with the team. Prior to his stint with the Bills, he showcased career-best performances with the Miami Dolphins in 2022, securing 30 receptions for 417 yards and two touchdowns.
Originally drafted by the Chargers in 2019, Tillery spent his initial seasons in Los Angeles, starting 29 of the 54 games played. Following his tenure with the Chargers, he joined the Raiders after being waived midway through the 2022 season.
