In a move that has been anticipated by keen-eyed fans, former Tennessee safety Wesley Walker has officially committed to the Michigan Wolverines. Walker made the announcement on Friday morning, solidifying his next collegiate football journey.
Walker’s commitment to Michigan adds depth and experience to the Wolverines’ secondary, a position that has seen recent additions with the recruitment of former Albany cornerback Aamir Hall.
A seasoned college football player, Walker brings a wealth of experience garnered from five seasons across multiple programs. Beginning his career at Georgia Tech in 2019, Walker later transferred to Tennessee in 2022. However, a brief stint at Louisville this offseason saw him re-enter the transfer portal, ultimately leading him to Michigan.
Walker’s tenure in the SEC has been marked by notable performances on the field. In the past two seasons alone, he has demonstrated his defensive prowess with impressive stat lines, including tackles, sacks, interceptions, and pass breakups. Notably, Walker’s coverage skills have been highlighted by his impeccable record of allowing zero touchdowns on 349 coverage snaps in 2023, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF).
With the recent injury to Rod Moore, Michigan identified a need for additional depth in the safety position. While Makari Paige and Quinten Johnson hold key roles, Walker’s arrival provides invaluable experience to guide and mentor younger players on the roster.
As Walker enters his final year of college eligibility, the upcoming season with the Wolverines offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on the field. With his seasoned leadership and defensive prowess, Walker is poised to contribute to the success of the Michigan defense as they embark on their campaign in the challenging landscape of collegiate football.
