“Star Wide Receiver Elects to Stay with Missouri Tigers, Fueling Excitement for Upcoming Season!”

May 10, 2024

The 2024 NFL Draft, slated for late April, could have signaled a fresh start for Theo Wease Jr. of Missouri football. Following a debut season in Columbia where Wease notched six touchdowns for the Tigers, the prospect of transitioning to the professional ranks loomed. Yet, contrary to expectations, Wease has opted to return to MU this autumn, as the Tigers aim to capitalize on the momentum from last season’s Cotton Bowl triumph.

Wease explained, “The decision wasn’t particularly difficult due to the relationships I’ve cultivated since arriving here.”

Having previously spent three seasons at the University of Oklahoma before joining MU ahead of the 2023 season, Wease’s tenure with the Sooners saw modest statistical achievements, with just one season surpassing 400 yards and a high of four touchdowns in a single campaign. However, in his inaugural year with the Tigers, he amassed 682 yards and six touchdowns. Despite this success, Wease remains focused on achieving greater heights in 2024, both personally and as part of the team.

“Last year is in the past. Our accomplishments then won’t win us any games now,” he emphasized.

In addition to striving for on-field progress, the senior wide receiver aims to enhance his leadership within the locker room.

“I aim to be more vocal, to take that next step in keeping the receiver room and the entire offense progressing,” Wease asserted.

Kirby Moore, the offensive coordinator who joined Columbia’s coaching staff last season, expressed his elation upon learning of Wease’s decision to return for another year.

“I was thrilled when I received the news that he would be coming back,” Moore shared.

Wease contributed to a passing offense that ranked sixth in the SEC in 2023, averaging 262.3 yards per game through the air. This group of receivers is eager to elevate their performance.

“This unit welcomes feedback. They actively seek areas for improvement,” noted wide receivers coach Jacob Peeler. “I’m quite vocal during practice, and these players not only accept it but embrace it as they strive to reach their full potential.”

With Missouri football eyeing a potential berth in the College Football Playoff at the conclusion of the 2024 season, Wease is poised to play a pivotal role in the team’s pursuit of success.

Wease and his fellow Tigers will kick off their season on Aug. 29 at Faurot Field, facing off against Murray State.
