Marco Reus is contemplating a potential move to Major League Soccer (MLS) LAFC precisely following his illustrious tenure at Borussia Dortmund.Former French midfielder Samir Nasri, now a pundit at Canal+, revealed that the 34-year-old is inclined to prolong his career with an undisclosed MLS club once his contract with Borussia Dortmund concludes at the end of the season.
Confirmation from Dortmund that they won’t be renewing Reus’ contract has prompted the playmaker to express his determination to continue playing.
Nasri disclosed, “I spoke with Marco Reus, and he expressed his love for football, indicating his intention to transition to MLS next season.”
Adding fuel to the speculation, former Chilean striker Ivan Zamorano, currently an analyst for TUDN, hinted on Tuesday that Reus could be headed to a Los Angeles-based club. This narrows down the potential destinations to Los Angeles FC and LA Galaxy, with the former being more likely due to roster space considerations.
Despite significant investments by LA Galaxy in players like Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec, coupled with a reliance on playmaker Riqui Puig, the chances of Reus joining the team are diminished by salary cap constraints.
LAFC’s pursuit of Reus may also be hampered by their rumored interest in French striker Olivier Giroud.
On Wednesday, Tom Bogert of The Athletic reported preliminary discussions between St. Louis City SC and Reus’s representatives. Roman Bürki, St. Louis’s starting goalkeeper, shares a history with Reus from their time together at Dortmund from 2015 to 2022.
However, Bogert clarified that St. Louis has yet to include Reus on their discovery list, which could complicate any potential MLS move. Additionally, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia have also shown interest in the German playmaker.
