The Chicago Bears are making waves in the wide receiver department, bolstering their arsenal with notable acquisitions and strategic draft picks. With Keenan Allen joining via trade and Rome Odunze drafted into the mix, alongside DJ Moore, the Bears boast a formidable trio ready to ignite their offense.
But could there be room for another weapon in the Bears’ aerial attack, particularly for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams?
According to insights from Bleacher Report’s Joe Tansey, the answer is a resounding yes. Tansey advocates for the pursuit of former Las Vegas Raiders wideout Hunter Renfrow, envisioning him as a valuable addition to Chicago’s receiving corps.
Renfrow’s journey in the NFL has seen its share of highs and lows. The Raiders released him in March following two consecutive seasons of underwhelming performance. Despite playing all games in the recent season, Renfrow’s stats were modest, tallying just 25 catches for 255 yards. This decline followed a more promising 2022 season where Renfrow secured 36 receptions for 330 yards and two touchdowns.
However, Renfrow’s potential has been evident, particularly during his standout rookie year. Selected by the Raiders in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Clemson, Renfrow showcased promise with 49 receptions for 605 yards and four touchdowns. His sophomore season further solidified his place, but it was his breakout performance in 2021 that truly turned heads, amassing an impressive 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns, earning him a coveted Pro Bowl nod.
Despite setbacks, Renfrow’s skill set remains enticing, offering a dynamic presence over the middle that complements the Bears’ existing receiving options. Tansey emphasizes Renfrow’s potential to diversify the team’s offensive capabilities, distinguishing himself from the likes of Moore, Allen, and Odunze.
In Chicago, Renfrow could vie for the fourth receiver position, potentially challenging Velus Jones for the role. As the Bears continue to refine their roster, the addition of Renfrow could inject further depth and versatility into their passing game, setting the stage for an electrifying season ahead.
