Canterbury Bulldogs’ Head of Football, Phil Gould, has announced his intention to contest a $20,000 fine issued by the NRL, following remarks made on Channel 9’s program “100% Footy.” The NRL issued a breach notice, alleging that Gould’s comments brought the game into disrepute.
During the show, Gould criticized NRL rulings, particularly highlighting the disallowed try of Wests Tigers’ hooker Apisai Koroisau. He described the decisions as “stupid” and questioned the logic behind certain rules, expressing frustration with the game’s regulations.
The NRL swiftly responded by imposing the fine, with half suspended, citing Gould’s comments as detrimental to the game’s best interests and in violation of NRL rules.
In response, Gould affirmed his intention to challenge the sanction, emphasizing his belief that he has not committed any wrongdoing. Speaking on the Today Show, Gould reiterated his stance, asserting that he will contest the breach notice through the appropriate channels.
Acknowledging the impending legal process, Gould highlighted his busy schedule but affirmed his commitment to addressing the matter. Originally given five business days to respond, Gould aims to engage legal representation to contest the NRL’s decision.
