According to his family, Obi Ezeh, a former standout football player for Michigan, has passed away at the age of 36. His mother, Nkechy Ekere Ezeh, expressed her grief on Facebook, referring to him affectionately as “My very own! My Obi. My #2,” and described him as her heart and her quiet giant. She further stated, “My Obinna Ezeh, you will always be in my heart my beloved son.”
No details regarding the cause of his death were disclosed. Ezeh had a notable career at Michigan from 2006 to 2010, accumulating 293 tackles, three sacks, and two interceptions over 49 games. He achieved recognition as a Butkus Award semifinalist during his redshirt junior year, recording 69 tackles. Despite going undrafted after college, Ezeh briefly joined the Washington Redskins before being waived from the team.
Michigan football expressed their condolences on social media, stating, “We are saddened to hear about the passing of former Wolverine linebacker Obi Ezeh. Our prayers go out to his family, friends, and former teammates. May he rest in peace.”
This marks the second loss for the Big 10 school in a short period. Craig Roh, another former Michigan football player, passed away at the age of 33 after being diagnosed with colon cancer.
Additionally, family members of former NBA player Darius Morris, who began his career at Michigan, announced his death at the age of 33. In a statement shared with TMZ, Morris’ family requested privacy as they mourned their loss, stating, “With great sadness we announce the passing of our dearly beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
