After sitting out Monday’s training session, De Goey was absent again on Wednesday due to an ongoing groin injury dating back to the Anzac Day draw against Essendon.
The 28-year-old is grappling with osteitis pubis and remains uncertain for Collingwood’s round nine clash against West Coast next Sunday.
“Unfortunately, Jordy won’t be playing. He’s dealing with tight groins. We’re easing him off a bit in hopes of settling it down. It’s unclear when he’ll be available,” said Collingwood coach Craig McRae on Wednesday.
“We’re in uncharted territory. We’re not sure how long it’ll take. It came on quite suddenly. If it appeared quickly, it might disappear just as fast. There’s a level of uncertainty, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
Meanwhile, Mitchell was present at training but didn’t partake in the main group activities due to a lingering foot injury he’s been managing for the past two months.
“He won’t be playing either,” confirmed McRae. “Tom’s been dealing with some plantar fascia issues for about a month now. We’re hopeful he’ll return in a week or two. He’s been struggling with it lately. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get through today’s session, so he’ll miss out.”
McRae and the selection committee will convene later on Wednesday to finalize the lineup to face Carlton, with several options on the table, including a potential debutant.
Mature-age recruit Lachie Sullivan, added to the rookie list in February, is in contention for his debut at 26. Former first-round pick Fin Macrae has impressed in the VFL over the past month, while Oleg Markov has also staked his claim for a recall.
“We’re aware of the challenge they pose with their experience and physicality. But this also presents opportunities for others,” McRae remarked.
“Oleg Markov has been outstanding in recent weeks. Lachie Sullivan is definitely a name that will be discussed. Fin Macrae has been performing well in the VFL midfield. We’ll see how it all shapes up.”
