“Star Guard Commits to Extend Tenure with Michigan Basketball”

April 30, 2024

The Wolverines’ standout guard, Nimari Burnett, has decided to return to Michigan for the 2024-25 basketball season, as announced by the program on social media. After starting every game last season, Burnett’s decision to stay brings excitement to the team and fans alike.

With an image captioned “I’M BACK,” Burnett made it clear that he’s eager for another year with the Wolverines. The 6-foot-4 guard, who previously played for Texas Tech and Alabama, showcased his talent in Ann Arbor last season, setting career highs across the board.

Averaging 9.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, Burnett’s contributions were invaluable to the team. His strong relationship with former coach Juwan Howard played a significant role in his decision to transfer to Michigan last offseason.

Despite appearing on the NBA Draft early-entry candidates list, Burnett has opted to postpone his professional aspirations for now. Instead, he will focus on another season with the Wolverines under new coach Dusty May.

Burnett’s return adds depth and experience to Michigan’s backcourt, which has undergone significant changes. Alongside transfers and incoming recruits, Burnett will play a crucial role in shaping the team’s dynamic for the upcoming season.

With Burnett’s commitment, Michigan fills 11 of the 13 allotted scholarship spots for next season, setting the stage for an exciting year ahead.
