Nathaniel Marshall, the standout defensive lineman from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois, made his commitment to Michigan official last Saturday after attending the Wolverines’ spring game. This marks a significant victory for new head coach Sherrone Moore, as Marshall represents his first official commitment since taking the helm.
Moreover, Marshall’s decision to commit to Michigan also marks the first commitment for the defensive coaching staff, including defensive line coach Lou Esposito and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 265 pounds, Marshall had previously scheduled official visits with Illinois, Alabama, and Miami. However, he opted to end his recruitment process early and commit to Michigan before taking those visits. Ranked as a top-75 overall prospect on 247Sports, Marshall has showcased his versatility by playing both inside and outside positions at Fenwick, suggesting he will be able to adapt and excel in various roles on the collegiate level.
Beyond his football prowess, Marshall is also a standout basketball player, with a family history deeply rooted in the sport. His grandfather, Ken Norman, enjoyed a successful NBA career, adding to Marshall’s athletic pedigree.
Fenwick head coach Matthew Battaglia praised Marshall’s exceptional talent and competitive spirit, noting that Marshall’s upbringing in a family of accomplished athletes has instilled in him a drive to succeed at the highest levels of competition.
Marshall’s commitment adds significant depth to Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class, making him the first recruit from Illinois. With Moore and Esposito’s established connections in the state, Marshall’s commitment signals a promising start to Michigan’s continued success in recruiting top talent from Illinois.
