Mitch White, a former right-handed pitching prospect for the Los Angeles Dodgers, recently designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays, has been traded to their rival, the San Francisco Giants, in exchange for cash considerations. Hailing from San Jose, White made his debut with the Dodgers in August 2020 against the Texas Rangers, where he showcased his talent over 14 starts and 38 appearances.
Although primarily viewed as a depth piece in the Dodgers’ pitching rotation, White demonstrated promise early on. In 2021, he recorded a respectable ERA of 3.66 across 21 games, covering 46.2 innings, and maintained a 3.70 ERA in 15 games during the 2022 season, totaling 56 innings before his trade to the Blue Jays.
Traded alongside second baseman Alex De Jesus, White joined the Blue Jays in exchange for pitchers Nick Frasso and Moises Brito. Over the past two years in Toronto, he has appeared in 24 games, amassing a cumulative ERA of 5.40 over 10 innings pitched this season.
While White has yet to fully realize his potential, the Giants appear eager to offer him an opportunity for growth. Throughout his career, White has compiled an ERA of 4.99 across 171.1 innings pitched. Perhaps a change of scenery in San Francisco will provide the spark needed to reignite his career, albeit at the expense of support from Dodgers fans.
