Former Michigan forward Tarris Reed Jr. is set to join the Big East conference after spending two seasons with the Wolverines.
Reed took to social media to announce his decision to transfer to UConn for the upcoming season. Hailing from Branson (Mo.) Link Academy, Reed initially signed with Michigan as a highly-rated four-star prospect according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
His move to UConn comes as no surprise, given the Huskies’ recent success in clinching back-to-back national championships under coach Dan Hurley. Reed, who gained significant playing time during his tenure at Ann Arbor, appeared in 66 games over the past two seasons. In the 2023-2024 season, he achieved career-high statistics in points per game, averaging nine points, 7.2 rebounds, and 0.6 assists.
Reed’s decision to transfer follows a trend of player departures from Michigan, especially after Juwan Howard’s departure as head coach in March. Terrance Williams, Youssef Khayat, Dug McDaniel, and George Washington III were among those who entered the transfer portal, although Washington ultimately withdrew his name on April 11.
Joining UConn marks a significant move for Reed, aligning him with one of college basketball’s most esteemed programs, following Michigan’s disappointing 8-24 season.
