The brother of Brisbane Broncos prop Payne Haas is contemplating legal action against authorities after all drug charges against him were dropped by the police.
Zeda Haas, along with another individual, was accused following a vehicle stop in Beresfield, NSW, in August, shortly after retrieving a package. The police intercepted the package at the border, extracting 1.8kg of methamphetamine before forwarding it.
Australian Border Force officers intercepted two parcels from the United States, containing a combined 4kg of methamphetamine valued at $3.5 million. Haas faced charges of supplying and trafficking a commercial quantity of prohibited drugs, which were dismissed at Newcastle Local Court last week.
During a bail hearing in September, a NSW Supreme Court judge criticized the case against Haas as “extremely weak,” citing limited evidence connecting him to the crime.
Haas’s solicitor, Abdul Reslan, confirmed on Wednesday that Haas is contemplating pursuing civil action regarding the dropped charges.
