On Tuesday, the Atlanta Braves placed second baseman Ozzie Albies on the 10-day injured list due to a broken right big toe sustained during Monday night’s game against the Houston Astros. The injury occurred when Albies was hit on the foot by a curveball from Houston rookie Spencer Arrighetti in the second inning. Despite the injury, Albies remained in the game and managed to go 1 for 3 with a walk. X-rays conducted on Tuesday confirmed the fracture.
Albies, a 27-year-old three-time All-Star, has been performing well this season, boasting a batting average of .317 with two home runs and 14 RBIs. In response to Albies’ placement on the injured list, the Braves selected the contract of infielder David Fletcher from Triple-A Gwinnett.
On Tuesday night’s lineup, Luis Guillorme filled in at second base, batting eighth for the Braves.
