Latrell Mitchell, Dominic Young, and Kurt Donoghoe have each agreed to suspensions handed down by the NRL’s match review committee, while Samuel Hughes of the Canterbury Bulldogs will challenge a fine at the judiciary.
Following Round 5, Mitchell and Young faced scrutiny after being charged with offenses by the match review committee.
Young, the Sydney Roosters winger, received a Grade 3 careless high tackle charge for his tackle on Canterbury fullback Blake Taaffe during Friday evening’s match. As it was his first offense, he was offered a two-game suspension with an early guilty plea, which he accepted. This suspension sidelines him for the club’s Round 6 game against Newcastle and Round 7 against Melbourne.
Meanwhile, Mitchell faced a Grade 2 dangerous contact charge for an elbow incident involving New Zealand Warriors halfback Shaun Johnson. Despite avoiding a second charge for a dangerous tackle, Mitchell accepted an early guilty plea, resulting in a three-match suspension. Consequently, he will miss key matches against the Cronulla Sharks, Melbourne Storm, and Penrith Panthers.
Additionally, Dolphin Kurt Donoghoe received a two-match suspension for a careless high tackle on Tigers’ forward Samuela Fainu.
On the other hand, Samuel Hughes of the Canterbury Bulldogs intends to contest his fine for a dangerous throw on Joseph Suaalii. Melbourne Storm’s Trent Loiero and Wests Tigers’ Aidan Sezer have accepted fines, while four charges from Sunday await pleas until Tuesday. These charges include fines for Titans’ players David Fifita and Moeaki Fotuaika, Cowboys’ Chad Townsend, and Eels’ Reagan Campbell-Gillard.
