The NHL has fined Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane the maximum amount of $5,000 US for slashing Flames forward Dryden Hunt during Saturday night’s game in Calgary.
The incident occurred at 3:46 of the second period, resulting in Kane receiving a minor penalty for slashing. Despite this, the Oilers emerged victorious with a 4-2 win, clinching three out of four games in the series against their provincial rivals.
This marks Kane’s second fine of the season, following a $2,500 penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct against Columbus forward Cole Sillinger last month.

Kane’s behavior has attracted attention recently, including an animated conversation with teammate Leon Draisaitl during a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 23. There have been suggestions that Kane’s on-ice interactions have caused tension among teammates, such as a reported perception of lacking effort and disagreements over play execution.
In Saturday’s game, Oilers forward Corey Perry was seen engaging in a heated exchange with Kane on the bench during the second period. The incident occurred after Kane made a pass that led to a turnover, potentially frustrating Perry, his linemate.
Looking ahead, the Oilers will kick off a four-game homestand against the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday.
