Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, at age 36, remains unsigned as he seeks a new team for the upcoming season. Zack Cook of Sports Grid suggests that Tannehill could find a home with the Chicago Bears, where he could provide valuable veteran support to the young quarterback the Bears are anticipated to draft.
“While Ryan Tannehill may not be in the prime of his career as a starting quarterback, he still holds value for NFL teams in 2024,” Cook remarks. “Backup quarterbacks play a crucial role, and Tannehill could fulfill that role for a team with a developing signal-caller.” Despite encountering injuries throughout his career, Tannehill achieved over 4,000 passing yards in two seasons with the Dolphins and surpassed 3,700 yards in two of his five seasons with the Tennessee Titans.
According to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports, Tannehill is considered the best available option among remaining free agent quarterbacks. “With 151 career starts over 12 years, Tannehill boasts a 81-70 record, throwing for 34,881 yards and 216 touchdowns with a 91.2 rating,” Kerr notes. “While Tannehill may need to wait until after the draft for his next opportunity, his veteran experience as both a starter and backup enhances any quarterback room.” Despite being benched last season in Tennessee, Tannehill’s ability to compete for a starting role remains evident.
Although the Chicago Bears are expected to draft Caleb Williams, they could still benefit from Tannehill’s veteran presence. While the starting position may not be within Tannehill’s reach in Chicago, Kerr suggests that he could serve as a valuable backup quarterback for the team.
