After Much Speculation, Buffalo Bills Trade Star Receiver Stefon Diggs to Houston Texans, Shifting AFC Dynamics
Following months of rumors, the inevitable departure of Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills has finally occurred, as General Manager Brandon Beane orchestrated a trade sending the two-time All-Pro wideout to the Houston Texans in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick, marking a significant shake-up in the AFC landscape.
Despite the rapid execution of the trade, Beane emphasized that quarterback Josh Allen was kept informed throughout the process. “I did alert (Allen) that there had been some inquiries and it wasn’t 100% off the table,” Beane informed reporters. “… Josh and I have a pretty regular conversation on things, and I think it’s important for me to make sure if I think something could happen to make sure he’s not blindsided.”
While both players maintained a positive public facade, signs of tension between Allen and Diggs surfaced over the past two seasons. Sideline disagreements and a reported altercation in the locker room following a Week 1 loss to the New York Jets hinted at underlying discord.
However, despite any interpersonal challenges, the on-field chemistry between Allen and Diggs was undeniable, establishing them as one of the NFL’s premier QB-WR duos over the last four years. Diggs’ stellar performance in Buffalo, leading the league in receptions and yards in his inaugural season, coupled with Allen’s consistent passing success, underscored their collective impact.
Beane acknowledged their formidable partnership, stating, “They’ve been a really good duo. I don’t think Stef made All-Pro before he got here, and he made multiple and some Pro Bowls in there, too. And, Josh ramped up as well. So I do think when they were clicking, the games they were clicking or the seasons they were really clicking, you could say they were probably up there with most any quarterback-receiver.”
