A grand jury declined to pursue attempted second-degree murder charges against LSU running back Trey Holly, who was arrested earlier this year in connection with a shooting incident in Union Parish.
Instead, the grand jury indicted Holly on one felony count of illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality. Holly’s attorney, Mike Small, stated that Holly will plead not guilty and looks forward to a fair trial in Union Parish.
Holly, 19, was arrested on February 15 and faced three felony charges, including attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon on a public roadway, and aggravated criminal damage to property.
Following his arrest, Holly was indefinitely suspended from the LSU football team in line with departmental policies and has not participated in spring practice.
In a social media post on February 17, Holly asserted his innocence, stating he was falsely accused and not involved in the incident. He was arrested alongside two others after a shooting at Union Villa Apartments on February 9, where two people sustained gunshot injuries.
The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office investigation revealed that multiple individuals fired shots during the incident, which arose from previous altercations at a nearby apartment complex.
Holly, a redshirt freshman, rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown during his freshman season at LSU. He holds a Louisiana high school rushing record with 10,523 career yards at Union Parish High School.
