The Miami Dolphins are actively seeking to bolster their already formidable offense ahead of this month’s NFL draft. As reported by The Athletic, the AFC East franchise has set its sights on veteran Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd in the free agency market. Interest in Boyd isn’t limited to Miami, with reports suggesting that the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, and other teams are also vying for his talents.
The Kansas City Chiefs, in particular, may intensify their pursuit of Boyd following an incident involving their star rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice earlier this week. Rice was involved in a six-car accident while engaging in illegal street racing. After eight seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, Boyd is set to depart. Despite experiencing a downturn in performance during the 2023 season, where he recorded 67 receptions, 667 yards, and two touchdowns, Boyd had previously showcased his skill with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2018 and 2019, along with 12 touchdowns during that period. Throughout his career, Boyd has been a consistent contributor to the Bengals’ offense, securing at least 58 passes every year since 2018.
Despite his recent dip in form, Boyd demonstrated flashes of brilliance last season, including an impressive eight-catch, 117-yard performance against the Houston Texans in Week 10. In light of their offensive prowess, with standout receivers like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the Miami Dolphins are eager to further fortify their offensive arsenal. Boyd’s potential addition could provide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with another valuable weapon, particularly in formations utilizing three receivers. Additionally, the Dolphins recently re-signed punt returner and versatile offensive threat Braxton Berrios, signaling their commitment to enhancing their offensive capabilities.
