The Miami Dolphins are gearing up to shape their roster for the 2024 season as the NFL has announced the commencement of offseason workouts and practices starting April 15 for the South Florida franchise. Organized Team Activities (OTAs) will follow in late May, with on-field practice sessions scheduled for May 20-21, May 23, May 28-29, and May 31, leading up to the mandatory minicamp from June 4-6.
While participation in the offseason program is voluntary, players are incentivized with weekly paychecks and workout bonuses, which can amount to $100,000 for their involvement. The NFL Draft, taking place April 25-27, will be followed by the Dolphins bringing in their selections and undrafted signees for rookie minicamp post-May 12, although details are yet to be disclosed.
The offseason workout program, outlined under the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, comprises three phases. Phase one spans two weeks and focuses on strength and conditioning, along with physical rehabilitation. Phase two, lasting three weeks, includes on-field workouts with no live contact allowed. The final phase features 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills, still without any contact permitted, culminating in the mandatory minicamp where the Dolphins will assemble on-field for the first time since the previous season’s conclusion.
Throughout the offseason, the team will use the time to instruct players on offensive and defensive schemes, experiment with personnel, and lay the groundwork for the upcoming season. Although the offseason program is closed to the public, select practices are accessible to the media. Fans eagerly anticipating the new-look Dolphins will have to await the arrival of training camp in late July to catch glimpses of the team, especially as they undergo significant changes in the offensive line and most of the defense.
