Less than a month remains until the 2024 NFL draft, and one of the highly anticipated prospects is quarterback Jayden Daniels. The LSU football standout, who recently clinched the Heisman Trophy, is poised to be among the top picks, with speculation suggesting he could land with the Washington Commanders, following hints from LSU head coach Brian Kelly during a recent interview at Daniels’ Pro Day.

Kelly’s comments seemed to allude to Daniels potentially joining the Commanders next season, emphasizing Daniels’ dedication to self-care and his ability to deliver plays effectively. Concerns have been raised about Daniels’ size, given his initial weight of 175 pounds when he started his collegiate career at Arizona State. Although he has since bulked up to 210 pounds, questions persist about his ability to withstand hits at the NFL level.

However, as Kelly pointed out, several successful quarterbacks in the league, like Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes, have proven that size is not necessarily a barrier to success. Daniels’ impressive performance in college, particularly in 2023 when he threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns, suggests that he has the potential to overcome any size-related concerns.

What sets Daniels apart from other top amateur quarterbacks is his exceptional rushing ability. In addition to his impressive passing statistics, Daniels shattered records during his college career. In a game against Florida football in November, he became the first FBS quarterback to achieve over 350 passing yards and 200 rushing yards in a single game. Additionally, Daniels holds the distinction of being the first FBS player to surpass 12,000 passing yards and 3,000 rushing yards in his career.
