Tanner Pearson’s absence from the Tricolore’s recent two games has gone relatively unnoticed. With the team securing two victories during this period, it seems unlikely that Pearson will return to the lineup anytime soon.
Could this absence mark the end of Pearson’s tenure with the Tricolore? It’s a possibility, but according to Renaud Lavoie, it might signify something more significant.
The TVA Sports journalist is questioning whether Pearson’s NHL career is coming to a close.
“He doesn’t appear to have a future with the Canadiens, and I’m curious to see what lies ahead for him in the National League,” commented Renaud Lavoie. It’s evident that Pearson is struggling to keep up with the pace set by NHL players, although he still has moments of brilliance on the ice.
However, his lack of production this year is concerning. With only 12 points in 49 games, including five goals, he has failed to meet expectations.
Pearson’s three-year contract expires after the current campaign, and it would be surprising to see him return to Montreal next year. However, given his relatively low salary, it wouldn’t be surprising if another team made him an offer.
A lengthy injury last year undoubtedly hindered his performance. It’s unfortunate, considering his effectiveness during the 2021-2022 season with the Vancouver Canucks, where he amassed 34 points in 69 games and proved valuable in the playoffs.
With a full off-season ahead of him, Pearson will have the opportunity to regain his form and, perhaps, secure a spot in another NHL lineup.
