Oilers’ captain Connor McDavid earned the NHL’s Second Star of the Month accolade for February after tallying 27 points across 12 games.
McDavid’s impressive performance, comprising two goals and 25 assists, granted him a six-point lead over any other player in the league last month. Currently ranking third in the NHL scoring race, he boasts 94 points in 55 games.
With 22 goals and 72 assists to his name, McDavid trails Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon by six points and Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov by 10 points. Notably, McDavid now holds the highest points-per-game ratio at 1.71.
Having secured two assists in six consecutive games, McDavid aims to join elite company by extending his streak to seven when the Oilers face the Seattle Kraken on Saturday. This feat would mirror Wayne Gretzky’s achievement in 1984-85, where he recorded two or more assists in eight consecutive games.
McDavid is on track to achieve 104 assists this season, potentially making him the fourth player in NHL history to reach the century mark for assists, following in the footsteps of Wayne Gretzky (11 times), Mario Lemieux, and Bobby Orr.
